Recently a friend enquired me about a particular face wash she wanted to try mainly due to ugly blemishes knocking her skin “door”. After speaking with her for a while I found out she wasn’t really using any toner – Aha – that was a perfect opportunity for me to explain why she should start using it rather than investing in other new products.
I learnt the use of toner after working with a skin care brand called “Dermalogica” for over 2 years. Initially I used to think its just one extra step that one can add to their skincare and BOY was I wrong. My skin is oily since I can remember, however, I began to notice it getting dry & flaky after I started getting hormonal acne attacks. After a lot of trial & errors I found out that I needed to balance out my PH level. All the acne medication both topical & internal were the culprit for such a mess up. Thats when I started using a toner.
A toner basically helps in:
- Balancing your PH level
- Helps to reduce the size of your pores
- Helps to remove any extra makeup residue that was left after washing.
- Refreshes the skin
- Helps to soak the moisturizer into the skin better
These are the basic things that a toner helps me with. I am obsessed with Boots Tea Tree & Witch Hazel Cleansing & Toning Lotion ( As you can see here I have backups for it).
For me If I skip this step my skin immediately retaliates. I start getting dry patchy skin especially around my cheek & jaw.
If you are wanting to add this step to your skin care routine ( which I Highly recommend) then you can start by a simple yet effective Toner – Rose Water. You can find it at any grocery store or supermarket.
Do you have any particular toner that you are obsessed with?
